Grading - Effective Fall 2001

Graduate Studies

Numeric marks on a scale from 0 – 100 will be used by all faculties. Grades for all courses taken prior to Fall 2001 appear on transcripts either as one of 10 letter grades from A+ to F, or as numeric marks on a percentage scale.

Averages are reported in all faculties as percentages. Average calculation values are used for overall averages for students with letter grades on their records.

Notes:

Graduate Studies
  1. Graduate students must obtain an average of at least 70% in the set of courses they present in fulfilment of course requirements for any graduate degree. Some departments may require higher program averages or course grades for graduate degrees.
  2. The grading scheme for the external institution applies to courses taken for Graduate Studies transfer credit.
    A grade status of “T” is applied where the grading system from an external institution differs from that of the University of Waterloo.
  3. A standing of INC will convert to FTC following a lapse period of two academic terms.

  1. A standing of INC will convert to FTC following a lapse period specified by the student’s faculty.
  2. Grades for courses taken at Wilfrid Laurier University will be reported as letter grades and converted to University of Waterloo numeric values for the purpose of calculating averages.
  3. Courses with (WLU) in the description have been taught at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Course unit weights are used to calculate weighted averages. Courses are given unit weights which vary from 0.25 to 1.00 credit or more. Most courses have a 0.50 unit weight and are of one-term duration.
